Our dogs have always been amenable to a handout or two, although we’ve always tried to limit their consumption of people food for two reasons: 1. it’s not good to feed them lots of extra junk; and 2. it teaches bad habits to come begging at meal time.
Since our son started eating solids in the [...]

We’re not the only ones suffering through the bad economy. Increasingly, we’re seeing more stories like this one on MSNBC.
Family pets are being surrendered to shelters when owners find they can’t take care of them anymore. Or worse, pets are just being left behind when families leave homes that are being foreclosed. Sadly, [...]

How would you feel if your community required you to spay or neuter your pet by 4 or 6 months of age or else be fined? Would you still do it after hearing some pet health providers say that these types of surgeries at earlier ages may be leading to other health problems? That’s [...]

I’m a sucker for a pet tale with a happy ending so this story in today’s paper by Barbara Nackman started my week off right! It was especially heartwarming to hear that Renzo was a rescue dog from the shelter in Briarcliff Manor.
Here’s another pic taken by our photographer Tom Nycz of Renzo with his [...]

Check out this story in today’s Life&Style section on LoHud.com about people who make home improvements geared toward their pets. These range from some low-cost, low-tech changes to some fancy add-ons like separate showers, bathrooms and living rooms for dogs and cats.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t foresee adding a [...]

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is finding himself in the doghouse with animal lovers, and possibly the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, after the Boston Globe ran a story featuring a less-than-flattering anecdote about Romney and the family pooch. Apparently, during a family trip from Boston to Ontario for vacation [...]

Having two very large and active dogs, I can attest to the benefits of getting enough exercise. Not only is it healthy for them, and us, but I find Maggie & Otis are much better behaved if they are letting off some extra steam. (There’s not enough energy left over after a nice 2.5-mile walk [...]
