Product pitches and fundraising…a thought

Some e-mails I received today got me thinking, and when that happens, you know I have to share…P&C regulars know this is not a blog for product pitching. There are plenty of other places for that kind of information, and I much prefer to be animal-centric. If I lose visitors here because of that, so be it.
Sometimes I make a very rare exception and plug something I normally wouldn’t if its a fundraiser, and the money goes to a shelter or related good cause. Plus, pet owners like entering their babies in contests and the like.
But here’s my new deal, and I hope you don’t mind.
I know lots of people like to get something in return for what they give, i.e. buy this thing and we’ll contribute a portion to….so it’s a win-win for all, right?
Well, P&C is asking, especially in this time of giving, that you just give. Why spend $10 on something when only a portion will go to your cause? Just give the $10 directly. That buys a lot more for a shelter than the portion some for-profit will give.
I admit I may make an exception when it seems right, but that’s going to be very rare.
OK. That’s the end of my semi-rant. Stanley has joined me at the desk and Cup is begging for me to watch her eat (here’s proof):
If you’ve read this far, thanks, and I hope you have, I offer you an easy, cheap way to help a shelter…save your newspapers. Yup, they need them badly for obvious reasons. I just donated a huge bunch from my office to one local shelter. They won’t pick up a week’s worth from one home, and you don’t want to keep them at home, I get it, but I’ll give you tips on how to do it in a later post, cause I’ve gone on long enough

I was reading it and waiting for you to announce your own fundraser for some shelter of your choice. May not be a bad idea. I’d support. And help you to get some boneheads attention too. A lot of them have pets, as you well know
Something else, in terms of giving. You can’t imagine how much carp Leslie and I get sent to our house from all these different societies, animal shelters etc. for donating the money. I’m sure you do know. Blankets(Izzy would love the colors), envelops, cards, labels. Most of them we don’t end up using. Why do they need to spend the money? People who donate don’t need anything back.
Btw, before we donate, we check the credibility, annual expenses, administrative expenses of the place. If anyone needs the tool for that: Charitynavigator.org.
ilb, always the voice of reason and help
However, mama has some tips:
These places have to send out pleas like anyone else to get attention. They need help beyond us diehards. And sadly, yes, some people need “something” to give….but we’re preaching to the choir here, ain’t we?
P.S. I know you know what that means. You won’t get me on that expression!
Ha! Googling as we speak.
Liar!! You know what it means…
