Also coming up, for baseball and animal fans…..

On Aug. 26, the Brooklyn Cyclones invites canine lovers to bring their dogs to the annual “Bark in the Park” baseball game at KeySpan Park, in Brooklyn. Baseball fans and their canine friends will have the opportunity for an exciting “dogs day” of fun as the Cyclones play against the Vermont Lake Monsters. Sponsored by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and Maddie’s Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation, the event will feature “Maddie,” Maddie’s Fund’s 6-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot (great for photos with the kids) and an agenda of dog-friendly events dedicated to help promote the initiatives of the Mayor’s Alliance, including pet adoptions, low-cost ($25) microchipping to the public, and ballpark specials featuring Weiner Wednesdays, offering Bark in the Park guests, Buy One, Get One Free hot dogs.

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals has arranged for two of its participating shelters – Animal Care & Control of NYC and Animal Haven – to bring dogs and cats for adoption. The adoption vans will be parked outside the ballpark from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm (rain or shine). The Mayor’s Alliance also will offer low-cost ($25) microchipping for dogs and cats to the public and ballpark guests from 3 pm until 9 pm. Microchipping provides pet owners with an effective means of increasing the chances of finding their pet if he or she becomes lost. It involves inserting a tiny capsule about the size of a grain of rice under the loose skin on the back of your pet’s neck; it providing no more discomfort than a vaccination.

The game begins at 7:00 p.m., but ticket holders and others interested in adopting a pet or having their pets microchipped are encouraged to arrive early. Watch the Maddie’s Fund mascot fire up the crowds, pose for photos with kids, and toss out the ceremonial first pitch at 6:35 p.m. The bleacher section of the stadium will be reserved for those who bring their pooches to the game.

Buy tickets online www.brooklyncyclones.com/tickets/individual, by phone at 718-507-TIXX, or at the KeySpan Park Ticket Windows.
