I love German shepherds, love them, but I’ve never seen a white one before. Wow! This wonderful heartwarming story was sent to me to share, some good news on this gloomy day. First, here is the beautiful Boomer with his new family. Hey, I want his life!

Some heartless soul dumped a 10 or 11 year old white German shepherd in a park in Yonkers, left to try to survive on his own. No one knows how long this dog was out there alone, but he eventually ended up at the Yonkers Animal Shelter, very thin and afraid. Much effort was put into trying to find a rescue or sanctuary for this old boy. Jenny’s Hope Rescue came to, well, the rescue and found a foster home for “Joey” (now Boomer ).
As the rescuer begged her boss
for a half day off to transport Boomer to safety, her boss, Dwight McGuirk, owner of Smith-Cairns, and family jumped in. His wife exclaimed that they just had to help this dog. His son said that he wanted to be the dog’s caretaker. His daughter said, “Daddy, don’t worry, we can make him better.” McGuirk thought that there was a lesson there to teach his children. Or, maybe it was the children wanting to teach us all something. This family wanted to be involved caring for this aging dog not because it was desirable, cute, young, or any of the things we look for in our family pets. They see that all life has value regardless of age or physical attributes. They know that there are two different kinds of people: those that sit back and say “what a shame” and those that get involved to do what is right.
At this writing, Boomer is safely in the home of this family and the children are excited about providing some dignity and care to this dog.
From me: thanks to the McGuirks. Boomer is one lucky, lucky dog.

What a wonderful deed the parents and children did for the white old shep. When he came into the shelter he was nothing but skin and bones – all the workers and volunteers kept feeding him so he got at least 4-5 meals a day. I will definitely buy my next car at Smith Cairnes. Erika Murphy volunteer
This story is wonderful. When I was a child of 10 a white german shepherd wandered into our neighborhood and adopted me—followed me everywhere. I loved that dog whom I named Whitey. He was so smart and beautiful. He messed with our neighbors garden. When they complained my parents called the pound to get him. They never talked with me or tried to find someone else to take him. When the pound came to take him he wouldn’t get on the truck. I had to put him on the truck. I am now 62 years old and it still hurts me so much. I am so happy that this family did the right thing for this dog. God bless you.
Aw, Judy, that story makes me sad….I hope you eventually got another dog.
