Help find Neo…he’s lost

July
31

Please read this in case you were in the area and can help this bereaved man. This is not your average looking dog, so if you’ve seen him or have him…here’s Neo’s picture, then the story (you can read more in tomorrow’s Journal News or on LoHud.com):

This poor boy is probably so scared….

A 16-month-old rescue dog who slipped away while he and his owner were hiking in Harriman State Park two days ago is still missing.

Raymond LeVier, the owner, said Neo was curbed for most of the hike, but he unleashed the dog at about 1:30 p.m. as they climbed up a steep hill on the Hillburn Torne Sebago trail. Neo stumbled on the incline and that seemed to spook him, LeVier said, and he bolted.

“He was gone within 30 seconds,” said LeVier, 39, of West Nyack, a drummer by profession. “I kept calling him. He wouldn’t come … The more I went after him, the more he ran away.”

LeVier, who adopted Neo three months ago, said he had been looking for the dog since the afternoon of July 29, and has contacted several police departments for assistance. Neo is a a cross between a rat terrier and a miniature greyhound, and weighs 27 pounds.

Me: I don’t have his contact info, but if you can help, please call your local shelter, alert them to this story, and help Ray and Neo get back together. Thanks.

Help shelter save Big Rocky

July
31

A colleague asked me to post this on behalf of the people who are trying to save the beautiful dog. If these photos don’t tug at your heart, then I don’t know what will.
This is Big Rocky:

Big Rocky recently arrived at the Adopt-A-Dog shelter in Armonk and showed immediate signs of illness. Rocky needed surgery to relieve fluid building outside his lungs. During his three-hour surgery, a wooded skewer was found embedded in his chest. Was he stabbed? Did he swallow it? No one will ever know.

The shelter is committed to bringing Rocky back to health. Your contribution to the Big Rocky Fund, large or small, would be greatly appreciated.

Donations can be made via Paypal to donation@adoptadog.org or can be mailed to

Adopt-A-Dog, Inc.
Attn. Big Rocky Fund
849 Lake Ave.
Greenwich, Conn. 06831

Care to foster a shelter dog?

July
31

Well here’s one way you can do that. Shelters not only need room, but always prefer that an animal can be at least temporarily put in a home rather than live in a cage before they get permanently adopted.

For example, this retriever is looking for a home or foster family:
So here’s this info from my friend Leslie, a volunteer at the Yonkers Animal Shelter who also works with this rescue group (P.S. This woman really cares about volunteer work. All the previous Yonkers shelter news you’ve read here comes from her. Bravo Leslie!)… Read more of this entry »

There are no cuter kitties…

July
30

….than mine! OK, yes, there are many, many adorable wonderful kitties, as I’ve shared with you here. But your own always has a special place in your heart, right? Check out this Stanley adorableness. Sleepytime on the terrace on a hot summer night.

I had to run for the camera for that, right? Now, we’re up, but not really…

And because I don’t want to hurt Cup’s feelings, even though this pic looks like a repeat it’s not. Ah, summer on the terrace with two sleeping kitties. A good way to end the day.

Baby red panda….does not get cuter

July
30

One of my oldest stuffed animals from childhood is a panda (the regular kind). My mom doesn’t even remember where it came from, it’s just always been there and it stoked my early and lifelong interest in this fabulous animal.
So, if you haven’t seen this yet (hey, I’m late, I know….thanks patient P&C people) take a peep at this girl…Oh, if I had a big house, on a farm, with a panda caretaker….I give you, Sha-lei.

Yes, the babe will be massive someday, but so what. More pics and story after the, yes, jump… Read more of this entry »

Stanley’s many favorites places…

July
29

….and why some days I wish I were a cat. I’ve shown you Stanley in some of her favorite places before, but she seems to have developed some new ones. I don’t know why. But she sure does get comfy, as only kitties can.
Here’s one spot, resting head on cabinet:

Here’s another, resting head on box on coffee table (sorry for bad lighting):

And here’s another, just plotzed on small ledge:

Hey Rangers Report fans, can you spot what’s behind Stanley in this pic?

Sleepy Cup on the terrace

July
27

Hmmm. Cup seems to be lapping Stanley this weekend in adorableness. Here is my babe in one of her favorite positions on the terrace. She loves it with sun or shade, but it’s always the same spot. What I love most…check out her right paw reached out…it’s how she always lays there.

And now, we’re indoors, cleaning up (the terrace gets dusty after all).

I do have the cutest kitties!

And this beautiful boy was sitting nicely nearby….Hi Bentley!

And your gorgeous closeup.

And then, I come home to this….

Ahhh, a lovely day with four-footers :)
