The place for pets, and their owners

Shame on me

June
30

Kitties, pups, cats and dogs who are needing homes, my apologies! It occurs to me that it’s been quite a while since I’ve put out pleas to get you adopted. Whack me on the head with a paper….bad girl! And even though these drive my Dad nuts (update: in earlier version of this post it seems I implied that Dad didn’t care and didn’t want everyone adopted. You should all know he is Beryl’s Dad, too. Sorry Dad. You’re right, they are just heartbreaking.) These guys touch my Dad’s heart, I hope they touch yours, too.
First, little Jenny. Check out the puss on this puss….

Jenny, a small black kitten, has lots of kitten friends at Putnam Humane Society. They are all so cute and cuddly and in need of happy and loving homes. Jenny and her brothers were found as strays and will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. They are currently in a foster home receiving the extra care they need. There are also many kittens and cats at the shelter ready and waiting to go to new homes now. All kittens and cats are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and are current with vaccinations. To meet Jenny, visit the Putnam Humane Society, Old Route 6, Carmel. Summer hours: weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 845-225-7777 or visit www.puthumane.org.

Now here’s Opie:

Opie is an adorable basset/corgi mix. He is about 1-year-old and weighs 53 pounds. Opie has it all — he’s handsome, charming, very sweet, friendly and house-trained. He does need some basic training and still has some puppy left in him. He loves to wiggle his tail in anticipation of a little love. Opie is no couch potato and would love to find a fun, active home. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $200. To meet Opie, contact Pet Rescue of Larchmont at 914-834-6955 or visit www.NY-PetRescue.org.

And last but not least, Tammy:

Tammy is a 1-year-old Shiba Ibu mix. She is a sweet dog who loves the company of people and most laid-back dogs and cats. She came from the South with her puppies, who all found homes, and now it’s her turn. She is a motherly dog who wants to take care of others. She does have a mild luxating patella (kneecap) that does not require surgery. She will be a great addition to any family. Her adoption fee is $125. If you are interested in adopting Tammy. visit the SPCA of Westchester, 590 N. State Road, Briarcliff Manor. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 914-941-2896, Ext. 11, or visit www.spca914.org.

About this blog
For most animal lovers, pets are members of the family. They carry around pictures in their wallets and schedule vacations with pets in mind. This blog takes a look into the world of a pet owner: the good, the bad and the just plain obsessive.

About the author
Laurel Babcock is the Community Life editor for The Journal News, Express Publications and LoHud.com. She grew up with a beloved mutt and was surrounded by dogs into young adulthood. She liked cats enough, but didn't really think of them as true pets. That changed when her brother brought an abandoned 4-week-old kitty into the family, dooming us all. Laurel currently serves as staff for two completely adored cats, Stanley and Cup, both girls.
