Paws 'n' Claws

The place for pets, and their owners

Thunderbooms bad!

June
30

My poor girls this year! So many thunderstorms! As I’m sure you’ve all experienced, lots of pets just don’t dig the crackling lightening and booming thunder (heck, neither do I).
I always hate when they happen during the day because I’m not home to comfort my girls, and I can’t prep them like Bentley and his super anti-anxiety thunder cape.
So tonight I was glad to get home relatively soon enough to calm the girls down. Cup comes out when I come home no matter what. Stanley needed some coaxing from under the bed. But she needs to stay near me to feel safe, but still be positioned to return to bed (under). Here we are:

She’s close enough that I can reach out and touch. But see the tension? This is not relaxed kitty.

Paws tight together, haunches up, head alert (not looking at mama). But still so cute! Dang you bad evil weather!

About this blog
For most animal lovers, pets are members of the family. They carry around pictures in their wallets and schedule vacations with pets in mind. This blog takes a look into the world of a pet owner: the good, the bad and the just plain obsessive.

About the author
Laurel Babcock is the Community Life editor for The Journal News, Express Publications and LoHud.com. She grew up with a beloved mutt and was surrounded by dogs into young adulthood. She liked cats enough, but didn't really think of them as true pets. That changed when her brother brought an abandoned 4-week-old kitty into the family, dooming us all. Laurel currently serves as staff for two completely adored cats, Stanley and Cup, both girls.
