Got this heart-warming yet sad story that needs a happy ending from Cat Assistance, which is seeking homes for the amazing kitties featured in the story below. If you have home for either one, or preferably both, or know of someone who does, please pass this on. First, photos of Santos then Marmie.

And before we continue, major kudos to the Scarsdale family for helping to save these cats…..This from Cat Assistance:
Last week a Good Samaritan family in Scarsdale saved the life of a beautiful, affectionate stray cat after he was brutally attacked by another animal in the outdoors. When Santos was found lost or abandoned some time ago he was wearing an overly tight collar which had to be removed. Since then he’s been living
outdoors and is fed regularly by a kindhearted Scarsdale family. Unfortunately, severe asthma and allergies in the family make it impossible for the family to take Santos into their home.
Santos loves children. He often walked the young boy to school in the morning and knew what time to pick him up—almost like a guardian. Santos is a very sweet, smart, cute and gentle. He urgently needs a loving home. The family has generously spent thousands of dollars to heal Santos following the attack because they feel he is well worth the expense.
In the attack, Santos received a severe fracture to his paw, leaving the bone exposed and acutely infected, resulting in a high fever. He also received puncture wounds to his head requiring staples. He stopped eating
and became dehydrated.
The family brought him in at night for emergency surgery at the Veterinary Emergency Group in White Plains, where one of the digits on his paw had to be amputated. He was later transferred to Central Animal Hospital in Scarsdale where he is currently recovering. Unfortunately, unless a good home can be quickly found, Santos will once again be returned to the outdoors where he faces a hostile environment.

The Good Samaritan family also feeds Santos’ adorable feline friend, Marmie. Marmie and Santos are like husband and wife. When the family found Marmie she, too, was wearing a too-tight, worn out collar, indicating that she had been lost or abandoned some time ago. Marmie knocks at the door every morning and meows to let the family know she’s hungry. She’s very affectionate and desperately wants to be living inside a loving home. Wouldn’t it be a fabulous ending to such a sad story if Marmie and Santos could be adopted together? Cat Assistance, a non-profit group based in Hartsdale, is involved in Santos’ care and rescue. There are a few teachable moments to this compelling story:
1. Spay and neuter your cats. Intact males are more likely to be aggressive and get into fights with other animals.
2. Keep your cats indoors at all times.
3. Make sure they all have properly-fitted collars with current ID tags.
4. June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month as celebrated by the Humane Society of the United States.
