….I would so bring this boy home with me. When is someone going to get me that farmhouse I’ve been wishing for? This is the beautiful McGee:
McGee’s info from the shelter:
He’s a 1-year-old Newfoundland/Lab mix who loves the company of people. He does not like other dogs and the shelter doesn’t recommend he share a home with with cats, either. If you love large breeds, come visit McGee. He is a big guy with a big heart. McGee is up-to-date on his vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $125. Please come by and see him at the SPCA of Westchester, 590 N. State Road, Briarcliff Manor. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 914-941-2896, Ext. 11.
I’m not trying to be mean, I swear, but in case you missed last Friday’s alert, I’m on vacation and not able to post, but I set up a couple of amusements and adoption pleas before I left. Scroll back for any updates you may have missed and be sure to keep checking through the week. Ta!
Hey P&C people, me here as promised with a pre-vacation post, and a plea for homes for these sweet, sweet girls — one for everyone, cat and dog people. As usual, pictures first, details after the jump.
But first, don’t be discouraged by the kitty’s eyes (she’s fine, and I think they give her character) or the pup’s scars (hate people!)…I’m told these are as loving a pair as you can find anywhere. First, Ruby Tuesday:
Look at those great markings on her puss!
See, despite her tough life, she’s still smiling….No go forth, read, learn and help get them adopted. Read more of this entry »
There’s a dog zone at a beach in Long Beach, Calif., where are the pups get to run free and splash and dig and generally have a doggie delicious time. This video isn’t exactly new, but it’s still a lot of fun and once again proves why I don’t get the negative connotation of the phrase “It’s a dog’s life.”
Isis was the Egyptian goddess of magic, life and rebirth — a lot of really cool claims to fame. But while we can’t promise this pup will perform any spectacular tricks, she’s sure to bring some life into a loving home. Look how cute!

Isis is a tiny thing, about 35 pounds, but as the shelter that’s housing her says, appropriately, is full of life.
She’s a 1-year-old American Staffordshire mix who likes some other dogs, although it’s not recommended that she lives with cats. She is spayed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on her vaccines. If you are interested in adopting Isis, come meet her at the SPCA of Westchester, 590 N. State Road, Briarcliff Manor. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 914-941-2896, Ext. 11.
What with 2009’s wacky winter weather and festering financial finnagaling, it’s now time for yours truly to take more than a long weekend, but a real vacation! Whee for me! Remember this photo from last month?
Well that’s gonna be me, figuratively — and literally, only flipped around — for the next week. I won’t be able to check in or post, but never fear…I’ve posted some things in advance for each day to keep my multitude of fans
sated….
Til then, be good to your furry friends.
Phew, yesterday got a little serious, huh? So why don’t we end the week on a fun note. It’s Friday!!!
Here are some videos I found that are worth the chuckle.
Slide show of adorable puppies.
Just a plain old hysterical cat. (Looks like a cousin of Stanley’s).
And lastly, this oldie but goodie. Wait for it…I guarantee you’ll want to watch it more than once.
My colleague Leslie Korngold recently gave us this update. She spoke to Kenneth Ross, chief of Humane Law Enforcement Division of the SPCA, who said he just received a report from a New York state certified veterinarian this afternoon saying that the animals at the Harrison shelter are, at this point in time, he noted, healthy, and that none appear to be subjected to cruelty.
Ross said the SPCA does not oversee shelters, but rather enforces the cruelty statutes. So, if an animal is living in squalor, that could evoke the laws. Management at the shelter had agreed to allow the animals to be examined by a vet sent by the SPCA. Ross said the report shows that “it is unfounded that animals are sick at this time.”
…As a follow up to my previous post, read below the jump for a letter from Harrison Mayor Joan Walsh to the community, and a letter to the editor we received yesterday. Read more of this entry »
