Find her a warm home please

January
24

As if this girl isn’t heartbreaking enough, she’s out in the snow! I also hate this story, because if you have a pet, there better be a good reason why you’d move to a place that doesn’t allow one. Sigh. Help this baby… Read more of this entry »

Stanley and Cup go nip nuts

January
23

Here’s the last of the group. As I was cleaning out my files, I also found two old photos that I think I may have posted a while ago, but can’t remember. So they’re a little treat at the end. So, we begin with Stanley giving the post a vigorous scratch. (Ignore litter box in corner please). Read more of this entry »

Cup loves her catnip

January
23

Stanley and Cup usually grapple for top position on the scratchy post for catnip. The preferred spot is stand, grip and go nuts. Secondary position is getting it on the post’s base. Here is Cup in spot in number one. Good grip Cup!Not the clearest pic in the world, but I tried to move fast. Read more of this entry »

Stanley and Cup photos

January
23

Good morning all. Cell phone is charged and photos are downloaded. Even added some of poor neglected Cup…though truly, while I adore them both equally, Stanley is the more amusing kitty for photographic purposes. Case in point, here’s one to start the day, with a bunch more later on. Happy Friday!

Stanley photos!

January
22

Stanley loooves her scratchy post. It’s where she goes to show her excitement when I come home, get a good stretch or just plain old scratch. (Cup, please take notes from your sister and leave the rugs alone!).

Anyway, Stan also loves swinging around the post on the floor, especially when I help by playing with her. Here are my lame attempts at capturing her this morning. Is she too cute or what!! Read more of this entry »

Labrador rules the day, again

January
21

Drum roll please: Hot off the wire, the top 10 pups of 2008!

If there was any doubt, the Labrador retriever is the people’s choice among purebred pooches for the 18th straight year. That’s the word today from the American Kennel Club, which keeps its nose to the ground on such matters.

(And no wonder why…who could resist this ball of fur!) Read more of this entry »

Lose weight resolution…for pets

January
19

This landed in the in-box today. It’s common knowledge that trying to lose weight or get in shape with a friend often makes it easier to stay on track. Well, if you don’t have a two-legged someone to join your cause, maybe this will help.

The Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers has started a Fit Club for overweight dogs or cats. No lie. If you’re interested, click here or call 914-457-4000.

Yonkers shelter needs your votes to win money

January
19

I posted this a while ago, but the shelter is still struggling and is in 8th place. Come now. With a mere click of a mouse you can help it win $10,000. Please vote. Here’s the info:

The Friends of the Yonkers Animal Shelter could use a few more friends in its quest to win a $10,000 internet contest.
The nonprofit group, along with the funding committee for the new Yonkers Animal Shelter, are hoping people will log on to www.care2.com and cast a vote for the aging shelter in America’s Favorite Animal Shelter Contest, which ends Jan. 31.
The groups hope to add the $10,000 prize to the $1 million fund-raising campaign currently underway for a new shelter that will be built on a 1.6-acre lot south of the county recycling center by the New York State Thruway.

About this blog
For most animal lovers, pets are members of the family. They carry around pictures in their wallets and schedule vacations with pets in mind. This blog takes a look into the world of a pet owner: the good, the bad and the just plain obsessive.

About the author
Laurel Babcock is the Community Life editor for The Journal News, Express Publications and LoHud.com. She grew up with a beloved mutt and was surrounded by dogs into young adulthood. She liked cats enough, but didn't really think of them as true pets. That changed when her brother brought an abandoned 4-week-old kitty into the family, dooming us all. Laurel currently serves as staff for two completely adored cats, Stanley and Cup, both girls.
