Obviously, from the names of my cats, you get that I’m a hockey fan. But what I really am is a Rangers fan, which longtime P&C readers know from my very first post.
I linked you then to my (now former) colleague and friend Sam Weinman’s Rangers Report blog here on LoHud. Well, to my great sadness, Sam has left us to be a senior editor for the Web site at Golf Digest. Here is Stanley reacting to the news…what?!?!

Got this e-mail from Mary, a reader, who asked that I share this story. It’s written in the voice of a dog who was adopted at a shelter. I loved it.
After reading it, make sure you read Mary’s story after the jump about how she came to adopt Charley, pictured here.
Can you just imagine the kisses this guy gives! Thanks Mary (hope you don’t mind my sharing your story, too). Read more of this entry »

So, as I said in the earlier post, I’m sitting at the computer last night watching the video portion of my hero’s new album, and I swear, Stanley starts coming around and looking at it like, “what the?”
I swear I am not making this up. What’s odd, is that it’s not like she’s never heard Bruce in my house (hardly!)….Apparently, she just really dug this song.
Notice how, in this pic, nothing deters Cup from her kibble.
And I just noticed that thank heavens the litter box is empty in the first pic. That would have been a buzzkill.

About a year ago, The Journal New did a story about Lisa Edwards and her pet therapy dog Boo, who visits with special needs children in Mahopac and retired Maryknoll sisters in Ossining, among other good deeds. This is Lisa and Boo doing their work.
Well now, for all his work in making people happy, Boo is up for an award, and I want you all to vote for him. You can get a better look in a video and vote for him here. And do read his story as written to me by Lisa, after the jump. It’s pretty inspiring. See, Boo had to overcome some disabilities, too. Read more of this entry »

Wow, I am both hysterical and horrified by this tale, as shared by my colleague Nancy Cutler on our Rockland opinion blog. She posted this tidbit this morning:
Housework is dangerous
OK, it’s not dangerous to me, but it is to my cat.
Last night, I was loading the dishwasher when I got distracted and turned away. I then promptly squeezed in the detergent, shut the door and pressed the magic button. I heard a thump, thump, thump. A dish out of alignment? A stray spoon?
I opened the door to fix whatever was out of place, and our 7ish-month-old kitten, Alex, came flying out at about 60 mph.
Yes, I washed my cat in the dishwasher.
She is fine (she got her head stuck this morning exploring a glass of orange juice, so she seems no worse for the wear, nor any brighter.)
I, however, am traumatized.
Is there a lesson there? Probably for Alex, but I don’t think she’ll learn it until she’s graduated from kittenhood. Until then, I will look in the dishwasher, oven, fridge (yes, she has) etc. before I shut them.
One thing Nancy didn’t mention: Alex also got into a bit of breathing trouble because he got his head stuck in a bag of doritos. Yes, that is correct.
So readers…is this the stupidest cat ever? Most adventerous, but still dumb? I’ve never heard of a masochistic kitty before, but in this case…..whichever, he sure is fodder for great stories!
Send a pic Nancy, we have got to see this cat!

I adore K-9 dogs, adore them, the ones that are specially-trained to work with cops and rescue units. And here’s a great opportunity for the whole family to learn all about them and bark out your thanks.
An alert colleague fowarded this e-mail to me about event at the Tribute WTC Visitor Center in Manhattan… Read more of this entry »
