Sigh. Please someone find a home for this girl. Here is Phoebe, who is too precious for words.
Phoebe is an adorable brindle and white Spaniel mix. She is about 1 year old and weighs 33 pounds. This sweet, gentle girl loves attention and will bury her whole head in your lap. She is friendly, but is timid initially around new things and loud noises. A $200 adoption fee includes spaying, rabies and other vaccinations, deworming and heartworm testing. To meet Phoebe, contact Pet Rescue of Larchmont at 914 834-6955 or on the web at www.NY-PetRescue.org.

You check this out on LoHud.com now, or read more about it in tomorrow’s Journal News. I just had to share the good news. Now maybe this guy will think twice before taking out his, um, emotions on a helpless little pup.

With some not so gentle urging by some colleagues, I’ve been convinced to share this hysterical site with my PC friends, but I warn you first, the site is very un-PC (in the political correctness-sense, not paws and claws).
This site takes on, and I quote, “animals that are currently getting away with flaunting their stuff all over town without so much as a ‘please stop doing that, you are making my heart explode.’ ” Basically, it mocks all forms of adorable animal photos that make you go “awwww.”Like this:
And this:
But here’s your fair warning. If you take personal issue with the “F” word, don’t visit the site. Here’s a hint why: the name is “F’ You, Penguin, but spelled out. Many many efs abound here, but if you don’t care, definitely take a look. Personally, I think it rocks, but then again, I’ve got a bit of salty tongue myself

The missing Rockland dog is back home with her owners, a day after protecting their home from a burglar. But here’s what I don’t get. Kola was wearing a name tag with her family’s phone number on it. Presumably she was still wearing it because the woman who found Kola in New Jersey took her to a shelter, which contacted the family.
Yet, the woman found Kola tied up outside a Costco. Which begs the question: the person who did that couldn’t have the call? Sigh. People. But welcome back pup.

Has anybody heard about this cat? It’s a true story, available in a book by the above-named title by author Vicki Myron.
It’s about a cat, full name Dewey Readmore Books, who was abandoned at, and later adopted by the Spencer Library in Spencer, Iowa. Here’s a pic of Dewey (wish I had a larger one):
Isn’t he precious! Read more of this entry »

This recently in from the New Rochelle school district.
Trinity Elementary School nurse Mary Ann Brady recently established a Chihuahua Club for students to socialize and to connect with the community.
The group meets weekly and talks about responsible pet ownership and projects to help animals. The club recently held a canned food drive for dogs and cats. The students collected more than 100 pounds of food for donation to the New Rochelle Humane Society.
The next project is to collect money for a brick at the shelter.
I don’t know how to get in touch with the club as of yet, but if you’re interested in helping the kids or the shelter, call the society at at 914-632-2925 or visit www.newrochellehumanesociety.org
