Helping shelters for the holidays

November
21

Yes, times are very tight, but if you’re looking to give something this year, pet people might consider turning to those who help abandoned animals who still lack loving homes.

I always suggest helping out local shelters here in LoHud-land, but here’s something from the North Shore Animal League, another very worthy cause.

From the League:

As a pet owner, you experience daily the comfort, unconditional love and satisfaction that your pet brings to your life. During the Thanksgiving season, North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, is offering animal lovers an opportunity to express their appreciation of their best friends with a “Paws To Give Thanks” banner on its website homepage, www.AnimalLeague.org.

“Paws to Give Thanks” reflects the important role that pets, both past and present, play in our lives. Animal lovers can make a donation to the life-saving efforts of the Animal League and post their pet’s image and a brief message in honor or memory of a four legged friend. To submit your photo and message visit www.AnimalLeague.org where you can learn about the Animal League’s mission to rescue, nurture and adopt more than 20,000 orphaned animals each year into loving homes.

About this blog
For most animal lovers, pets are members of the family. They carry around pictures in their wallets and schedule vacations with pets in mind. This blog takes a look into the world of a pet owner: the good, the bad and the just plain obsessive.

About the author
Laurel Babcock is the Community Life editor for The Journal News, Express Publications and LoHud.com. She grew up with a beloved mutt and was surrounded by dogs into young adulthood. She liked cats enough, but didn't really think of them as true pets. That changed when her brother brought an abandoned 4-week-old kitty into the family, dooming us all. Laurel currently serves as staff for two completely adored cats, Stanley and Cup, both girls.
