Paws 'n' Claws

The place for pets, and their owners

Welcome to Paws ‘n Claws!

January

I hope you all are finding this site because you are obsessed about your animals. Or maybe you just want to see what us “animal crazies” are actually like.

First—about the blog.

This is pretty much an anything-goes blog about animals. All animals. My personal interest is in dogs, so most of the posting will probably be biased in that direction. The blogs will include product reviews, store recommendations, trends, links to stories about animals, photos and hopefully (hint, hint) reader interaction.

Now about me. My name is Sarah Netter. I was raised in northern Connecticut with two dogs: a chihuahua/terrier mix named Daisy and a Greyhound named Kasey. At various times I was also owner (read: I swooned over and my mom cared for) fish, a bunny, gerbils and lizards. Oh and a decomposing turtle, but that’s a story for another time.

I am the Rockland County government and politics reporter for The Journal News.  And (saving the most important for last) I am the proud mommy—not owner, not guardian, not master—of two Italian Greyhounds.

This is Joey.

He will be five years old in May. He was the first (and only) dog I’ve ever gotten from a breeder. He’s a total sweetheart and the alpha of the family. It is not above him to grumble if  I have to shift my legs on the couch. Joey is anxiously awaiting the return of sunny evenings so he can chase his Frisbee out in the yard again.
This is Mollymollypretty.jpg
She’s a special little girl. She’s originally from a pet store (this is a topic you’ll read a lot on later) but was dumped by her first family and would up in rescue. I adopted her from the Italian Greyhound Club of America in March 2003. She turned four in October. Molly has a few severe medical problems that keep me on my toes and my credit card bill on “maximum use.” She was diagnosed with von Willebrands disease, a bleeding disorder similar to hemophilia, in May 2002, and in the fall of 2005 with microvascular dysplasia, a congenital liver disease.  But she’s a happy girl and loves her orange ball.

So those are “the kids.”  I promise this blog will not be solely dedicated to them, but I thought you all should meet the loves of my life.

Until next time…

I look forward to where this blog goes. I have 2 4-legged kids, miniature pinschers Hercules and Paco. Hercules was originally from a pet store but his family couldnt keep so we adopted him,Paco is from a breeder. I also share my life with the 2 legged kind of children who swear I favor the dogs over them. Well considering, both dogs are happy to ride in the car not drive it,never ask for money, think anything I cook is a chef masterpiece and are always delighted to see me when I come home, the 2 legged kids might be on to something

Hi Sarah, it would be great if you could mention the Hudson Valley Visiting Pet Program in your blog. We are a non-profit group that offers therapy visits to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, schools and libraries. This morning on the Today Show there was a segment about children reading to dogs. We already do that through our Reading Education Assistance Dog Program. We are always looking for new members who have dogs or other pets and want to do visits with us. We are certified through the Delta Society and Intermountain Therapy Animals R.E.A.D. program. Please visit our website at http://www.HudsonValleyVisitingPets.com. We have a Delta training program coming up in March. More information is on our website. Thanks!
